At a Glance...
The Module aims to acquaint the student with the different
Psychotherapy types as well as the main Psychotherapy Approaches. In the first
course, the emphasis is to help the student understand the different dynamics
of Individual and Group Therapy. Also, it teaches the specific work that needs
to be done when you do Couple or Family Psychotherapy. The Student should be
able to choose and suggest the best type when needed. In the second course, the
focus is on the Philosophy and specifics of various Psychotherapy Schools
paying tribute to all who have added whatever value to the understanding
of soul and consciousness as well as the empowerment of the person as he tries
to recover his health. In the third course, the focus of interest lies with the
Psychotherapeutic Process. The student will study in depth what constitutes a
Therapeutic relationship and the principles on which the process should be
based on and how it can become effective.
The Module consists of 2 parts, studied during the 1st and
2nd semester. In Part I, the focus is on the Psychotherapy Types and we'll
study a number of Psychotherapy Schools, to be completed in Part II.

The Student will be able to understand and reflect on how
each psychotherapy school helps the human being to learn about what lies
underneath their moods, feelings, thought patterns and behaviors and how he can
transform them so that he can recover lost aspects of his wellbeing. He will
also be able to acquaint himself with an elementary understanding of how art
therapy tools can be included in the psychotherapeutic context and explore
techniques to help him gain insight on the drawings made by people and what
they reveal about unconscious imprints. He will see different communication
tools to get access to the significant talks hidden in the Unconscious or
Superconscious. He will start reflecting about how behavioral patterns develop
and how they can be transformed.
As we gain more and more new understanding of life, we see
that Psychotherapy has moved beyond spoken conversation to include drama,
narrative, story telling, poetry, music, sound, movement, dance and all sorts
of art or human expression and has expanded to include the readings of the body
beyond the readings of the speech and the readings of the human creations. Study of the relevant concepts, such as healing, therapy, psyche,
therapist etc is deeply explored.
The main axons of free associations, behavior analysis,
phenomenology, existentialism, the brief therapy umbrella, community psychology
and body phenomena will be discussed to a good extent.
Besides, he will get to understand how each Psychotherapy
School prepares professionals to gain the knowledge and expertise to get the
license to practise in the field and what is the legal framework to practise
Psychotherapy in different parts of the world.
There are no prerequisites for this course. However, the
course will be conducted at the level expected of Undergraduate Students or
Professionals and Executives who can critically think and reflect. Therefore,
for all participants, reading and writing comfortably in English at the
Undergraduate College Level is desirable as well as a reflective Mind to delve
Although the lectures are designed to be self-contained,
students wanting to expand their knowledge even further will be guided to do so
through extensive bibliography. Students are advised to read the required
readings either before or soon after each unit, but in advance of the next
unit. Recommended and supplemental readings can be read any time throughout the
course in the self-study context and this is what will take your understanding
to new heights.
There will be video lectures (60-75 minutes each) each
week. The lectures can be divided into about 4-6 segments, separated by
interactive quiz questions for you to to help you process and understand
the material. In addition, there will be a problem set and a programming
assignment each week and there will be a final exam. You are encouraged to
maintain a personal journal of thoughts, observations and experiences during
the course. For the community work, there will be action learning activities
which will involve you talking to others in your environment. A brief essay is
to be written based on your experience. Students will be encouraged to meet
with and discuss with representatives of such psychotherapy schools in their
